On August 17th, United Playaz collaborated with Maria Fords of Claremont Avenue Family Day to host a lively block party for people from the community.
Between the DJ, the food, and the games and activities, everyone who participated left with Kool-Aid smiles. UP youth leaders helped run a basketball tournament, painted kids’ faces, set up an arts an crafts table, organized portrait drawings, and volunteered for the dunk tank!
Throughout the day, UP youth spoke about the community they are creating in the Bronx and the “raise the age” campaign. UP youth set up games and interacted with the neighbors, young and old, who came to the event.
After all her hard work, one youth leader confessed that her favorite part was “watching the face painting and seeing the toddlers so hyped afterwards”. Amelia, UP’s Executive Director, thought the block party was great and she looks forward to doing it again next year!
