4As Leadership Council
Overview: 4As is a program designed to build and expand on the leadership skills of ARCHES program graduates. 4As features an intensive leadership development curriculum for the Leadership Council and monthly engagement activities for the larger ARCHES alumni base to enhance community involvement and serve as a recruitment base for future Leadership Council members.
Details: The 4As Leadership Council meets twice a week. Each training session is 5 hours long. The Leadership Council curriculum includes in-depth exploration of members’ own personal backgrounds, historical understanding of poverty, traditions of social justice organizing, contemporary understanding of the criminal justice system and its related social inequities, introduction to technical career development skills.
The curriculum culminates in a final project. Each member of the Leadership Council designs and executes a project, which can include documentaries, music, surveys, alumni led workshops for the community, gardening projects and essays. Participants then share their projects with the larger group, community members, CCFY staff and other invited guests.
Leadership Council participants are also responsible for designing and implementing monthly engagement activities for the larger ARCHES alumni base, known as the General Council. The Leadership Council also helps design community based projects for the entire ARCHES Alumni base. The Leadership Council is expected to help recruit and engage the larger ARCHES alumni base.
Leadership Council members also attend a multi-day, overnight training and team-building retreat in Ramapo, NY.
Stipends: Each Leadership Council member receives a stipend of $25 per training session attended and a $250 bonus for successfully completing the program goals including a final project. Leadership Council members can earn up to $900. MetroCards and a hot meal are also provided.
Where: Training sessions are held at the Fontana Center – 27 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014, Conference Room B.
